NGS technology for microbiota
Phytocontrol is developing a new microbiota analysis method using NGS technology, enabling you to identify all bacterial species, pathogenic or not, in a given environment.
NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) is a new molecular biology technique that detects, identifies and lists the components of animal or plant origin in products and foods, including mixtures, by comparison with an evolving database. This cutting-edge technique also enables identification of bacterial species found in a wide range of matrices (water, food, cosmetics, etc.).
Indeed, the same protein can be encoded by genes whose DNA sequence is slightly different: this is genetic polymorphism. Some of these differences in DNA sequence are species-specific, others are variety-specific.
They enable certain identification of each species detected, for the most part meat, fish, plants and fruit. However, given the very high genetic variability among microorganisms, bacterial identification is generally carried out at the genus level.
