PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), also known as “forever chemicals”, are a large family of synthetic chemical compounds used for decades for their non-stick, waterproofing and heat-resistant properties. Highly stable in the environment, they can contaminate soil, water and agricultural raw materials, then accumulate in the food chain. Seafood, fish, eggs, meat, milk and certain drinking waters are among the main sources of dietary exposure.
Recommendation (EU) 2022/1431 on the monitoring of PFAS in fruit & vegetables, dairy products, cereals, alcoholic beverages, sugar and baby food.
Phytocontrol has developed an LC-MS/MS method, under COFRAC accreditation, to analyse the 4 regulated PFAS.
