Responsible for the current pandemic, Covid-19 is a respiratory disease that can be fatal in patients weakened by age or chronic illness.
The main route of transmission is inhalation of infected droplets emitted by sick people. It has been shown that there is a direct correlation between the level of SARS-CoV-2 virus residues present in wastewater and the level of infection in the population. Hence the value of implementing a broad water testing plan. The presence of the virus in wastewater is therefore an early and large-scale indicator of the level of infection in the population. Monitoring traces of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater is of major interest, as it allows anticipation of the spread of the pandemic and the arrival of a new wave of Covid-19 infection.
