EFSA defines microplastics as particles ranging in size from 0.1 to 5,000 micrometres (μm), or 5 millimetres. Primary microplastics are of industrial origin and take the form of granules or pellets intended to be processed for a specific purpose.
As for secondary microplastics, they come from the chemical and physical degradation of plastic bags, plastic bottles, tyres…
