World Food Day 2022
World Food Day is held on Sunday 16 October 2022.
This day is organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, with the aim of raising awareness among as many people as possible of the importance of the fight to improve living conditions for all.
Although the transition from hunting and gathering to food production based on farming and livestock rearing – in other words, the birth of agriculture – occurred independently in many regions of the world around 10,000 years ago, the history of agriculture is rich in examples of cross-cultural exchanges with major consequences.
What is this year’s theme? “Leave no one behind.”
A theme starting from a striking observation: 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟑.𝟏 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐨𝐫 𝟒𝟎% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐭.
Such a finding inevitably calls for action, and World Food Day therefore invites every stakeholder to become a “food hero” to build a sustainable future together.
