The VLOG “GMO-free” or “fed without GMOs” label refers to a specific certification that guarantees the absence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food products, particularly in the ingredients used to manufacture them.
VLOG is the German acronym for Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik, meaning “Association for Food Products without Genetic Engineering”.
This label has been used in Germany since 2010 and is widely recognised as a quality standard for GMO-free food products. Products bearing this label must meet strict criteria and undergo regular checks to ensure that no GMO ingredients are used in their production.
The criteria for obtaining the VLOG label vary depending on the type of product: meat, dairy products, eggs, honey, cereals, pasta, fruit and vegetables and fruit juices. The raw materials used in their production must not be genetically modified.
The VLOG “GMO-free” label is therefore an indicator for consumers wishing to avoid products containing genetically modified ingredients, enabling them to make informed food choices.
