Phytocontrol, the reference for SARS-CoV-2 analysis in water
To effectively combat the spread of Covid-19, since this summer Phytocontrol laboratory has offered SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus analysis in all types of water: clean water, wastewater and seawater.
Recent studies have shown a correlation between the level of SARS-CoV-2 virus residues in wastewater and the level of infection in the population, hence the value of implementing a broad water analysis plan.
This monitoring is essential to anticipate the spread of the pandemic and avoid new waves of Covid-19 contamination.
An innovative technology: digital PCR
In partnership with I.A.G.E., a specialist in environmental biological analysis, over a six-month period Phytocontrol received numerous samples for the detection and quantification of SARS-CoV-2 in water. It is thanks in part to an innovative solution combined with a breakthrough technology, digital PCR, that it was possible to track the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic.
This analytical technique overcomes matrix-related interference and provides a limit of detection much lower than qPCR technology. It also delivers results faster, available 48 hours after the sample is received at the laboratory. The digital PCR method now serves as an indicator of the presence or absence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater and seawater.
