Phytocontrol analyses the SARS-CoV-2 virus in waters

In order to efficiently monitor the propagation of Covid-19 in water, the Phytocontrol Laboratory offers you the analysis of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in clean water, waste water as well as sea water.
How does this water monitoring work? Is it a reliable indicator to measure the circulation status of the coronavirus? Phytocontrol Laboratory answers you and helps you in your fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Why test the waters?

It has been shown that there is a direct correlation between the level of residues of the SARS-CoV-2 virus present in wastewater and the level of infection in the population. Hence the importance of a broad water testing plan. The presence of the virus in wastewater is therefore an early and massive indicator of the level of infection in the population. Monitoring the presence of traces of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater is of major interest, as it can anticipate the spread of the pandemic and the arrival of a new wave of Covid-19 contamination.

The Phytocontrol solution

Always at the forefront of innovative solutions, Phytocontrol offers a complete analysis for the search and quantification of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater, surface water and seawater. This innovative method associated with a breakthrough technology, digital PCR, allows to follow the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic. This analytical technique is free from matrix-related interference and gives access to a much lower detection limit than qPCR technology. The digital PCR method has been tested in 20 wastewater treatment plants and is now used as an indicator of the presence or absence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater and seawater.

  • An innovative technology : PCR is widely recognized for diagnostics in the search for cancer or infectious diseases.
  • Unparalleled accuracy of results : thanks to low detection thresholds, results are earlier and allow for better risk management.
  • A sample taken by Phytocontrol : the laboratory’s logistics department takes care of the sampling carried out by qualified and trained technicians; as for transport, it complies with regulatory requirements. Indeed, the samplers are equipped with tri-temperature vehicles that comply with the NF X15-140 standard.
  • Results are available in record time : results are available from 48 to 72 hours after sampling

The water analysis can be complementary to a swab detection ensuring the qualitative analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on all types of surface. A real-time RT-PCR analytical method, the kit of which is recognised by the NRC (National Reference Centres), enables the virus to be identified in only 24 hours after receipt of the swab. Actors in the food industry, food manufacturers, shops, cooperatives, communities, liberal professions, cleaning companies, hotels, campsites… Phytocontrol supports all professionals in the safety of the environment and populations.
