Contaminant under surveillance: TFA in beverages

Contaminant under surveillance: TFA in beverages

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a short-chain PFAS attracting growing attention due to its persistence in the environment. Resulting notably from the degradation of certain plant protection active substances containing fluorinated groups, or from environmental sources (rain, air, soil…), it has recently been detected in numerous wines and various beverages.

While there is currently no regulatory limit for TFA in foodstuffs, its presence raises questions regarding consumer safety.

A reliable, accredited analysis for enhanced monitoring

Aware of these issues and in order to anticipate any future regulatory changes, Phytocontrol offers its clients TFA analysis by LC-MS/MS, under COFRAC accreditation, enabling producers and processors to control the presence and level of TFA in their beverages.

A broad analytical scope covering numerous matrices

While most analyses currently focus on wine, Phytocontrol offers a broader scope of application, including:

  • Wines, ciders, beers, sweet wines
  • Fruit and vegetable juices
  • Sodas and sugary drinks
  • Milk
