Analysis of phthalates in water
Phytocontrol has developed a screening method that analyses, under COFRAC accreditation, around forty phthalates in surface water, groundwater and drinking water.
Phthalates are chemical substances found in many everyday consumer products (food packaging, toys, vinyl flooring, cosmetic products, household cleaning products, paints, etc.).
These substances can end up in water due to their widespread use and their ability to easily be released from the materials that contain them. The presence of phthalates in water is a cause for concern due to their potential effects on human health and the environment.
Regulation:
Regulatory authorities and water monitoring bodies are working to assess and control the presence of phthalates in water. Standards and regulations have been put in place to limit phthalate levels in drinking water.
Five phthalates are subject to regulatory requirements in fresh water, with limits of quantification ranging from 0.1 to 0.4 µg/L:
- n-Butyl phthalate
- Dimethyl phthalate
- Diethyl phthalate
- Butyl benzyl phthalate
- Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate
