National plant protection product uses

The European Commission sets the authorisations for active substances at European level, but it is up to each Member State to define the plant protection product uses authorised in its territory.

Indeed, in each country, uses are defined for a plant protection product on one or more defined crop(s), and these uses can differ from one country to another.

Some countries maintain public registers for product/active substance approvals on each crop. Most of these databases allow targeted searches by product, active substance, status, crop, etc.

In the event of a residue detection following an analysis, this upstream regulatory monitoring approach helps ensure that the producer has complied with the plant protection product uses authorised in their country.

In France, it is ANSES’s Ephy database that lists these national approvals.
Fytoweb lists Belgian approvals, Mapama the Spanish ones, and NPU those of the United Kingdom.

As part of pesticide residue analyses carried out in the laboratory, the compliance statements issued on test reports relate to compliance with Regulation (EU) No 396/2005 and its amendments, i.e. compliance with the European maximum residue levels (MRLs).
