In Europe, the maximum residue levels (MRLs) of pharmacologically active substances are defined by Commission Regulation (EU) No. 37/2010 of 22 December 2009, as well as its subsequent amendments.
Veterinary residues
What are the health issues and regulatory requirements
relating to veterinary residues?
Veterinary drugs are used to prevent, treat or control animal diseases and ensure the health of livestock. However, their use can lead to the presence of residues in foodstuffs of animal origin. Among these substances, antibiotics are subject to particular monitoring because of their potential impact on consumer health. Monitoring veterinary drug residues is therefore a major food safety issue and concerns all products of animal origin, whether raw or processed.
EXPERTISE & INNOVATION
How to analyse
veterinary residues?
Veterinary drug residue analysis available as multi-residue screening and by specific family:
- Screening and confirmation of veterinary drug residues in meat products, seafood products, dairy products, bee products, egg products and infant food, covering the main antibiotic families and other pharmacologically active substances likely to be present in these matrices.
- Detection and quantification of more than 200 marker residues by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a QTOF detector (HPLC-QTOF).
- Chloramphenicol: the laboratory offers a high-performance, responsive method for analysing Chloramphenicol by LC-MS/MS at a quantification threshold of 0.04 µg/kg, corresponding to the minimum required performance limit set by Decision 2003/181/EC.
