Phytocontrol Group inaugurates its new laboratory
Phytocontrol, a private and independent French group of laboratories, inaugurated the extension of its central laboratory on Tuesday 27 November.
Phytocontrol adds 1,000 m² to its central laboratory in Nîmes to support its growth momentum (25% growth per year) in food and water analysis. Since this summer, this wing has housed analytical production and all R&D departments.
Supported by the Region, the State and Nîmes Métropole, this new building, costing nearly EUR 2.5 million, brings the total area of the analytical hub to 4,000 m² within the Georges Besse II science park. This state-of-the-art, ISO 14001 technical facility is accredited for all analysis programmes developed, GLP-certified and approved by the Ministries of Health and the Environment.
The laboratory’s entire analytical equipment (LC-MS/MS) has recently been renewed; Phytocontrol invested more than EUR 2 million in 2018 in this latest-generation technology dedicated to pesticide residues, to strengthen its European leadership in food and water safety. “With this expansion, we have greater analytical capacity; moreover, thanks to our commitment to continuous innovation, we are constantly strengthening and adapting our historical expertise and core business,” comments Eric Capodanno, Scientific Director of Phytocontrol.
The laboratory extension was inaugurated under the auspices of Carole Delga, President of the Occitanie Region, Yvan Lachaud, President of Nîmes Métropole, and all of Phytocontrol’s financial, institutional and industrial partners.
“We are proud to welcome to our premises the partners who have supported us since our beginnings, to show them our latest-generation facilities and to share with them our enthusiasm and our plans for the future,” said Mikael Bresson, President of Phytocontrol Group. Indeed, this was an opportunity to highlight Phytocontrol’s loyalty to the Gard area and particularly to the city of Nîmes, where the laboratory has always been based and intends to keep growing: by 2021, Phytocontrol aims to create a major European centre of expertise in food authenticity in the Gard department.
Looking even further ahead, the group plans to set up a BTS training course focused on controls and analyses, in partnership with the Occitanie Region, the Rectorat, the Gard Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nîmes Métropole and the laboratories of major Gard industries, in order to fill the fifty or so positions opened each year, particularly as part of the development of the hydrology department involved in regional and national monitoring plans.
