Phytocontrol laboratory offers a seminar hosted by its scientific director Mr Eric Capodanno on the topic of PPAM (Perfume, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants).

PPAM (Perfume, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants) represent more than 150 plant species and over 500 product references. PPAM are used in the food, cosmetics and food supplement sectors, among others.
These are extremely complex matrices to analyse due to their very high concentration, which creates far more interference than standard matrices. Only a few expert laboratories are capable of carrying out this type of service.

A World Health Organization survey indicated that around 70 to 80% of the world’s population relies on non-conventional, mainly plant-based medicine for their primary healthcare. In recent years, we have seen growing popularity of over-the-counter (non-prescription) health foods, nutraceuticals and medicines derived from plants or other natural sources in developed countries.

However, these over-the-counter products can be contaminated by excessive amounts of authorised or banned pesticides, microbial contaminants, heavy metals, chemical toxins, and adulterated with conventional medicines.
These excessive or banned pesticides and heavy metals can be linked to the source of these plant materials, if they are grown in a contaminated environment or during the collection of these plant materials.
