Exceptional authorisation of chlorpyrifos-methyl use on citrus fruit
The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has just granted an exceptional authorisation for the use of chlorpyrifos-methyl on citrus fruits to combat Delotococcus aberiae (Cotonet) in the Valencian Community.
In recent months, several discussions have taken place on the issue of citrus “cotonet” in this community. However, it was not until 12 August 2021 that the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat Valenciana declared the presence of the Delotococcus aberiae pest in this territory. On this basis, and after studying the various options, the ministry finally decided to grant an exceptional authorisation, with a start date running from 30 August 2021 to 27 December 2021.
Chlorpyrifos-methyl is an insecticide no longer authorised for agricultural use in the EU; the authorisation expired on 16/01/2020, and it currently has a default MRL of 0.01 mg/kg.
