Analysis of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Phytocontrol has developed and validated a method enabling the simultaneous analysis of seven NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs): Fenofibric acid, Ibuprofen, 1-Hydroxy Ibuprofen, 2-Hydroxy Ibuprofen, Carboxy Ibuprofen, Fenoprofen and Acetylsalicylic acid, in weakly mineralised water (treated and bottled) and surface water.
Over the last decade, pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) have been considered compounds posing a health risk to humans and aquatic ecosystems.
Medicines are continuously released into the environment, mainly because the administered doses can be excreted without being metabolised (up to 95%), and discharged into domestic wastewater.
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most widely used pharmaceutical medicines by humans worldwide. These commonly used compounds are easily accessible, and in many cases available over the counter without a prescription. This ease of use leads to their presence in various environmental compartments.
Quantifying these substances in aquatic compartments is therefore a significant health issue for human health.
The Notice of 19 October 2019 relating to the quantification limits of the ‘parameter-matrix’ pairs for the approval of laboratories carrying out analyses in the field of water and aquatic environments, sets the LOQs to be achieved for the following NSAIDs: acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen, fenofibric acid, salicylic acid, 1-hydroxy ibuprofen, 2-hydroxy ibuprofen and carboxy ibuprofen.
The Phytocontrol solution
We comply with the regulation and offer simultaneous analysis of seven NSAIDs by direct injection without preconcentration and LC-MS/MS for surface water, groundwater and water intended for human consumption. Our method is COFRAC accredited and, thanks to its speed, allows us to deliver analysis results within 6 working days.
