Water toxicity analysis on Daphnia mobility

Water toxicity analysis on Daphnia mobility

The Phytocontrol laboratory has developed the normative method NF EN ISO 6341, using the Daphtoxkit F kit, enabling the analysis of water sample toxicity based on Daphnia mobility.

It is important to protect aquatic and terrestrial flora against uncontrolled discharges of polluting water. To this end, numerous biological tests have been introduced, such as the acute toxicity test using Daphnia magna. This test aims to check the toxicity of water based on Daphnia mobility, and to determine an effective concentration (EC50).

Daphnia are crustaceans ranging in size from 0.4 to 0.6 cm, found in a wide range of habitats: slightly brackish waters (lakes, etc.) but also ponds and pools.

The EC50 is the minimum concentration of the sample required to immobilise at least 50% of the Daphnia, after a contact time of 24 hours, then 48 hours.

We offer this rapid analysis method for fresh water (surface and groundwater), wastewater and interstitial water.
