Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019\/1090<\/a> and its corrigendum<\/a> have been published in the EU Official Journal concerning the non-renewal of the active substance “dimethoate”.<\/p>\n

Dimethoate is used in plant protection products applied to various crops: citrus fruits, garlic, onions, tomatoes, beetroot, carrots, olives, rye and wheat.<\/p>\n

During the assessment linked to the renewal application, EFSA could not rule out a risk of exposure of consumers, operators, workers, bystanders and residents to dimethoate residues, whose genotoxic potential cannot be excluded, as well as to its main metabolite omethoate, which the majority of experts classified as an in vivo mutagenic agent. In addition, EFSA concluded that there is a high risk to mammals, non-target arthropods and bees.<\/p>\n

Member States must withdraw authorisations for plant protection products containing the active substance “dimethoate” by 31 December 2019 at the latest. The grace period granted by Member States for plant protection products containing dimethoate expires by 30 September 2019 at the latest for products used on cherries and by 30 June 2020 for those used on other crops.<\/p>\n

Regulation (EU) 2019\/1090 entered into force on 30 June 2019.<\/p>\n

In France, this molecule has been banned from sale and use since 1 February 2016.<\/p>\n
