The DGCCRF has just published the results of its monitoring and control plans for pesticide residues in plant-based foodstuffs in 2017.
\nThese plans are used to check compliance with Regulation No 396\/2005, applicable since 1 September 2008, which aims to protect consumer health by setting MRLs for foodstuffs produced and marketed within the European market.<\/p>\n

During these checks, 4,958<\/strong> samples of products of plant origin (fruit, vegetables, cereals, spices, etc.) placed on the French market were analysed, including 621<\/strong> as part of enhanced import controls, and 423<\/strong> active substances were tested for.<\/p>\n

Pesticide residues were quantified in 2,511<\/strong> samples, i.e. 62.9% of fruit, 43.1% of vegetables, 52.6% of cereals and 22.7% of processed products.
\n316<\/strong> exceeded the MRL, representing 3% of fruit samples, 2.4% of vegetables, 7 cereal samples and 1 processed product sample.
\nThe non-compliance rate in 2017 was 2.3%<\/strong> under general monitoring<\/strong> (2.1% in 2016).<\/p>\n

Under the enhanced import control plan<\/strong>, 58 batches were declared non-compliant (9.3%) and were therefore destroyed or rejected at the border.<\/p>\n

Foodstuffs produced in France must comply with European MRLs to be placed on the market but must also be compatible with the marketing authorisations (MA) of plant protection products (PPPs) according to the uses considered.<\/p>\n

Of 2,574<\/strong> foodstuffs of French origin checked, 4%<\/strong> contained traces of active substances whose use is not authorised in France.
\nFollowing these checks, 57<\/strong> warnings and 13<\/strong> official reports were issued.<\/p>\n
