In an opinion<\/a> published on 28 May, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) announced its intention to withdraw fungicide products containing epoxiconazole from the market. 76 products are affected by the withdrawal procedure.<\/p>\n

Epoxiconazole is an antifungal active substance approved in the EU (approval expiring on 30\/04\/2020). In France, epoxiconazole-based products are used to treat the aerial parts of plants (cereals, beets). Nearly 200 tonnes are marketed each year, according to ANSES.<\/p>\n

This active substance is persistent and is presumed toxic for human reproduction (R1B) as well as carcinogenic (C2). ANSES notes that epoxiconazole is on the list of candidates for substitution at European level<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following its work, the Agency concludes that epoxiconazole is an endocrine disruptor for humans and non-target organisms, and presents a level of concern regarding hazard to humans and the environment. ANSES has informed the French authorities of the withdrawal of products containing epoxiconazole in France, and will forward its decision to the competent authorities of the European Commission and other Member States.<\/p>\n
