The Order of 18 April 2019 suspending the introduction, importation and placing on the market in France of fresh cherries intended for food use produced in a Member State of the European Union or a third country where the use of plant protection products containing the active substance dimethoate is authorised for treating cherry trees was published on 20 April 2019.
\nThe text concerns introducers, importers and first placers on the French national market of fresh cherries intended for food consumption.
\nOn 3 April 2019, France asked the European Commission to take emergency measures to ban the use of dimethoate on cherry trees and suspend the placing on the European market of fresh cherries from cherry trees treated with dimethoate, which are likely to pose a serious risk to human health.<\/p>\n

As no measures were taken by the European Commission, France is suspending, for a period of one year from the entry into force of this order, the introduction, importation and placing on the market in France of fresh cherries intended for food use produced in a Member State of the European Union or a third country where the use of plant protection products containing the active substance dimethoate is authorised for treating cherry trees.<\/p>\n

Given that EU rules on organic cherry production do not allow the use of plant protection products containing the active substance dimethoate, cherries from organic production compliant with Regulation 834\/2007 may be introduced, imported or placed on the market.<\/p>\n
