{"id":8396,"date":"2019-03-15T09:45:01","date_gmt":"2019-03-15T08:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=8396"},"modified":"2026-08-28T01:47:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T23:47:47","slug":"anses-communicates-on-emerging-allergens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/anses-communicates-on-emerging-allergens\/","title":{"rendered":"ANSES issues statement on emerging allergens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 14 December 2015, ANSES was requested by the DGS to update its report &#8220;Food allergies: overview and recommendations&#8221;, published in 2002 by AFSSA.<\/p>\n<p>Food allergies are a public health concern. New dietary habits and the marketing of new foods are bound to introduce new allergen risks.<\/p>\n<p>These new potential allergens, which can cause anaphylactic shock among other reactions, need to be identified in order to prevent such risks.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, 14 allergenic substances are listed in Annex II of Regulation (EU) No 1169\/2011. These allergens are subject to mandatory labelling requirements.<\/p>\n<p>From 2002 to 2017, the Allergy Vigilance Network (RAV) recorded 1,951 cases of anaphylaxis involving 164 different food allergens. Among the cases identified that did not involve the 14 allergens covered by the regulation, certain so-called emerging allergens are associated with at least 1% of the recorded anaphylaxis cases.<\/p>\n<p>These reports have identified the following emerging allergens:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Buckwheat<\/li>\n<li>Milk from small ruminants (goat and sheep)<\/li>\n<li>Kiwi<\/li>\n<li>Pine nuts<\/li>\n<li>\u03b1-galactose (present in mammalian meat)<\/li>\n<li>Peas<\/li>\n<li>Lentils<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regarding milk from small ruminants, in 2\/3 of cases patients tolerate cow&#8217;s milk, however Regulation 1169\/2011 does not require the producing species to be specified.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, people allergic to milk from small ruminants are forced to avoid consuming all foods containing milk or dairy derivatives, even though they are only allergic to milk from small ruminants.
