The RASFF 2017 annual report for products intended for human and animal consumption has just been published.
\nIn 2017, 3832 notifications were transmitted through the RASFF portal, including 942 alert notifications, 596 information notifications for follow-up, 706 information notifications and 1588 border rejection notifications.
\nCompared to 2016, the number of alert notifications involving a serious risk to health increased by 11%.<\/p>\n
HUMAN FOOD<\/strong><\/p>\n Pathogenic Micro-organisms:<\/strong><\/p>\n 414 notifications were reported concerning pathogenic micro-organisms, mainly on products of animal origin. This represents an 18% increase compared to 2016. Pesticides:<\/strong><\/p>\n 186 notifications relating to pesticides were issued in 2017.
\nSalmonella is the pathogen most frequently reported in foodstuffs from EU member states (207 notifications, up 22%).
\nListeria monocytogenes contaminations concerned smoked fish, raw milk cheeses and meat.
\nNotifications issued for Escherichia coli are linked to the food safety criterion for live bivalve molluscs. In 2016, mussels from Spain accounted for the majority of notifications; for 2017 it was French mussels.
\nRegarding Norovirus, 23 notifications were issued on live oysters, strawberries and raspberries.
\nThe presence of Campylobacter was notified 10 times on poultry.<\/p>\n
\n109 notifications concern the detection of fipronil residues in eggs following the illegal use of fipronil as a veterinary medicine rather than as a pesticide.<\/p>\n
