{"id":69264,"date":"2024-07-11T09:42:03","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T07:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=69264"},"modified":"2026-08-27T23:57:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T21:57:05","slug":"publication-of-the-order-of-8-july-2024-on-water-reused-in-industrial-food-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/publication-of-the-order-of-8-july-2024-on-water-reused-in-industrial-food-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"Publication of the Order of 8 July 2024 on reused water in food businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 9 July 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legifrance.gouv.fr\/jorf\/id\/JORFTEXT000049908820\">the Order of 8 July 2024 on water reused for the preparation, processing and preservation of foodstuffs and goods intended for human consumption in food sector businesses<\/a> was published in the JORF.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This order concerns operators carrying out activities related to the preparation, processing and preservation stages of foodstuffs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It defines the categories of use and the declaration and authorisation procedures for the production and use of water unfit for human consumption that is reused for the preparation, processing and preservation of foodstuffs intended for human consumption, as well as the quality requirements applicable to such water.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under certain conditions, businesses may use recycled water from raw materials and recycled process water as an ingredient in the composition of final foodstuffs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The use of recycled water from raw materials, recycled process water and recycled treated wastewater is permitted subject to compliance with the conditions set out in the order, whether:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In direct contact with a processed or unprocessed product during the transport, preparation and preservation stages, where no subsequent stage is able to control the hazards that may be introduced by such water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In direct contact with a processed or unprocessed product during the preparation, preservation and transport stages, where a subsequent stage exists that is able to control the hazards that may be introduced by such water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In indirect contact with a processed or unprocessed product during the transport, preparation and preservation stages, where no subsequent stage is able to control the hazards that may be introduced by such water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> In indirect contact with a processed or unprocessed product during the transport, preparation and preservation stages, where a subsequent stage exists that is able to control the hazards that may be introduced by such water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With no direct or indirect contact with a processed or unprocessed product during transport, preparation and preservation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The operator must characterise the quality of the raw water used to produce recycled treated wastewater at the outlet of the wastewater treatment plant, and in particular identify pollutants with reference to the parameters regulated for drinking water subject to a quality limit under the order of 11 January 2007, the microbiological criteria set out in Regulation (EC) No. 2073\/2005 and the regulated contaminants set out in Regulation (EU) 2023\/915.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It must also identify any other biological or chemical agent based on potential inputs that are likely to compromise the safety of foodstuffs, such as: chemicals used at the site concerned, any treatment of recycled water, during the food preparation process and particularly during the cleaning of facilities and the maintenance of premises and equipment, the various hazards likely to be introduced by raw materials, packaging or that may be released from materials making up the equipment used in the food preparation process, and by-products that may be formed from these various inputs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Treated recycled wastewater and recycled water from raw materials and recycled process water must meet the criteria set out in Annex 2 of the order.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This order is directly applicable.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phytocontrol holds the national approval from the Ministry of Health and Environment for carrying out sampling and analysis for water sanitary control.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will find the details of our accreditations in our COFRAC technical annex No. 1-6066.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Need technical, regulatory or pricing information?
