As part of the community programme established under regulation (EC) No. 1274\/2011, the DGCCRF carried out checks on population dietary exposure to certain pesticides.
\nThe following matrices were targeted: aubergines, bananas, cauliflowers or broccoli, table grapes, orange juice, fresh or frozen shelled peas, sweet peppers, wheat and virgin olive oil.
\n65 samples were taken and one non-compliance was detected concerning the detection of cyprodinil at 0.010+\/-0.005 mg\/kg in grapes from Italy. Cyprodinil is a fungicide not listed in Annex II of regulation (EC) No. 889\/2008, which lists plant protection products authorised in organic farming.<\/p>\n
Analysis of organic wheat of French origin also revealed the presence of piperonyl butoxide (PBO) at 0.53 mg\/kg. The sample was declared “to be monitored” by the DGCCRF.<\/p>\n
At EU level, PBO is considered a synergist for natural pyrethrins rather than an active substance, so no EU MRL has been set.
\nHowever, at national level, a threshold of 10mg\/kg has been set for PBO in cereals.
\nAbove this threshold, a product containing PBO is non-compliant, whether “organic” or conventional.
\nIn a product from organic farming, if PBO is detected at a level below this threshold (<10mg\/kg), national laboratories conclude \"to be monitored\" in order to flag the use of pyrethrins (authorised in organic farming) and to check that this use is justified with regard to regulation (EC) 889\/2008.<\/p>\n
