Food allergies, immune responses triggered by proteins present in food, represent a genuine public health issue. Ingestion of a food allergen, even in very small amounts, can cause serious and even fatal allergic reactions.<\/p>\n

In our ISO 17025-accredited laboratory, by combining reliable and validated chromatographic and biotechnological methods that are the most advanced and suitable, LCMS\/MS, real-time PCR, Elisa, Phytocontrol offers a complete range of analyses covering the food allergens targeted by European regulations, in order to meet food labelling requirements and protect consumers.<\/p>\n

The authorities are working to put in place provisions to better manage the risks and hazards associated with food allergies and intolerances:<\/p>\n

– Regulation (EU) 1169\/2011 “INCO” specifies the labelling rules for the 14 potential allergenic ingredients to be mentioned under Directive 2007\/68\/EC:<\/p>\n

o Cereals containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt, kamut or their hybridised strains) and products based on these cereals<\/p>\n

o Seafood and crustaceans and products based on crustaceans (e.g. crabs, lobsters, prawns)<\/p>\n

o Eggs and products based on eggs<\/p>\n

o Fish and derived products<\/p>\n

o Peanuts and derived products<\/p>\n

o Soya and derived products<\/p>\n

o Milk and dairy products (including lactose)<\/p>\n

o Tree nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashew nuts, pecan nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachios, Macadamia nuts and Queensland nuts) and derived products<\/p>\n

o Celery and products based on celery<\/p>\n

o Mustard and products based on mustard<\/p>\n

o Sesame seeds and derived products<\/p>\n

o Sulphur dioxide and sulphites at concentrations of more than 10 mg\/kg or 10 mg\/litre expressed as SO2<\/p>\n

o Lupin and derived products<\/p>\n

o Molluscs (clams, mussels, oysters, scallops) and products based on molluscs<\/p>\n

– Regulation EC\/41\/2009 sets thresholds for products declared “gluten-free” (20 mg\/kg) and “low gluten” products (100 mg\/kg). Thresholds for other allergens are currently being established.<\/p>\n
