PHYTOCONTROL is pleased to announce that, in addition to the analyses already carried out at the laboratory, the R&D department has recently developed an innovative analytical method enabling the simultaneous qualitative and quantitative detection of norovirus GI, GII and Hepatitis A in plant products by RT-PCR.<\/p>\n

Norovirus and Hepatitis A are the main enteroviruses responsible for collective foodborne outbreaks.
\nThey are transmitted from person to person, through the consumption of contaminated food, through contact with contaminated water or food-contact surfaces, or through contact with contaminated materials.<\/p>\n

Since 2013, numerous European alerts (RASFF) have been issued regarding the detection of these viruses in various foodstuffs.
\nCurrently, no regulatory threshold has been set at European level.
\nSince 1 January 2015, the FCD (F\u00e9d\u00e9ration du Commerce et de la Distribution) has been asking its suppliers to quantify norovirus and Hepatitis A in certain foodstuffs when a qualitative test has shown their presence. This approach is part of a control plan aimed at establishing a limit within 24 months.<\/p>\n

According to the biological hazard description sheet for foodborne pathogens\/Norovirus (ANSES, May 2011), studies in volunteers have shown that the ID50 (dose causing infection in 50% of exposed individuals) for the GI strain is between 18 and 1,000 particles (titrated by RT-PCR), but in some individuals, ingestion of fewer than 5 particles caused symptoms.<\/p>\n
