The review of DGAL’s 2015 monitoring and control plans was published in the official bulletin of the Ministry of Agriculture on 25 August 2016.<\/p>\n

Regarding pesticides in plant-based products, the results show an increase in non-compliance compared to the previous year’s review.
\nA total of 1,432 samples were analysed: 706 under the monitoring plan (358 on cereals, 160 on leafy vegetables and 188 on pome fruit) and 726 under the control plan (342 on fruit and 384 on vegetables).
\nFor the monitoring plan: 3.8% of samples were non-compliant, compared with 2.8% in 2014, and for the control plan: 7.6%, compared with 5.6% in 2014.
\nAccording to DGAL, non-compliance can be explained by poor agricultural practices: failure to comply with maximum authorised doses and\/or pre-harvest intervals, use of products not authorised for the crop concerned, drift of products from one crop onto a neighbouring crop, insufficient rinsing of sprayers, etc. Some non-compliance may be linked to the persistence in soil of certain authorised products applied to the previous crop, or even earlier.
\nAmong the molecules found non-compliant:
\n– Amitraz (pear)
\n– Dimethoate (cherry, tomato, cabbage)
\n– Prosulfocarb (watercress, apple)
\n– Dieldrin (radish, cardoon, courgette)
\n– Iprodione (spinach)
\n– Lenacil (spinach)
\n– Chlorothalonil (spinach)
\nNote that more than 31% of spinach samples were found non-compliant, half of which showed non-compliance with the MRL for several different active substances (iprodione, lenacil, chlorothalonil). Spinach sampling has been scheduled for 2016.<\/p>\n

Other checks carried out included:<\/p>\n

– Monitoring review of anabolic, banned substances, veterinary medicines and pesticide residues in animals and products of animal origin.
\n– Monitoring review of persistent organic pollutants (dioxins, PCBs, brominated flame retardants BFRs, PAHs) in animals and products of animal origin.
\n– Monitoring review of metallic trace elements in animals and products of animal origin.
\n– Monitoring review of radionuclides in animal foodstuffs and products of animal origin.
\n– Monitoring review of Bisphenol A contamination in non-canned foodstuffs of animal origin.
\n– Monitoring review of phycotoxins in shellfish at distribution stage (diarrhetic toxins DSP, amnesic toxins ASP, paralytic toxins PSP).
\n– Monitoring review of histamine in fish at distribution stage.
\n– Monitoring review of Escherichia coli and norovirus in oysters at distribution stage.
\n– Monitoring review of shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in chilled minced beef at distribution stage.
\n– Monitoring review of Salmonella spp. in fresh pork meat at distribution stage.
\n– Monitoring review of contaminants in animal feed.<\/p>\n
