This report covers various topics related to food safety:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;        <strong>Pesticide residues: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2014, 83,000 samples were analysed by the 28 EU Member States, Iceland and Norway through national monitoring programmes. 778 different pesticides and metabolites were checked. 97.1% of the samples tested complied with MRLs, which remains consistent with previous years. The pesticides showing the most MRL exceedances were: chlorpyrifos, carbendazim, dimethoate, acetamiprid, imidacloprid, anthraquinone, iprodione, fosetyl-Al, hexaconazole, cypermethrin, profenofos and dithiocarbamates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EU-coordinated programme covered a total of 213 pesticides: 191 in foods of plant origin and 58 in foods of animal origin, across 12 different matrices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was concluded that, for the majority of the samples analysed, short-term exposure (acute risk) could be considered negligible or unlikely to pose health concerns for consumers, but a possible short-term risk to consumer health cannot be entirely ruled out. On the other hand, EFSA considers that pesticide residues from this programme are unlikely to pose a long-term (chronic) risk to consumer health. <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.2903\/j.efsa.2016.4611\/full\">More information<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;        <strong>Veterinary drug residues in animals and food: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Data collected in 2014 on 730,000 samples analysed show high compliance rates, although the non-compliance rate for targeted samples increased slightly compared with previous years (0.37%, related contaminants: metals and mycotoxins). <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.2903\/sp.efsa.2016.EN-923\/abstract\">More information<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;        <strong>Acrylamide in food: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Data collected between 2010 and 2013 allowed CONTAM Panel experts to confirm previous assessments that acrylamide in food potentially increases the risk of developing cancer for consumers in all age groups. The food categories that contribute most to acrylamide exposure are fried potato products, coffee, sweet and savoury biscuits, and toasted or fresh bread. The choice of ingredients, the storage method and the cooking temperature can influence the amount of acrylamide formed in different foods and, consequently, our dietary exposure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EFSA and the Member States have drawn up a summary with advice on reducing acrylamide levels in food, in an infographic which you can find at this link: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/efsa_rep\/blobserver_assets\/acrylamide.pdf\">http:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/efsa_rep\/blobserver_assets\/acrylamide.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;        <strong>Glycidyl fatty acid esters and 3-MCPD in vegetable oils and food: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The highest levels of glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE), as well as 3-MCPD and 2-MCPD (including their esters), were found in palm oils and fats, ahead of other oils and fats. The review carried out by the scientific panel revealed that GE levels in palm oils and fats had nevertheless halved between 2010 and 2015, thanks to voluntary measures adopted by producers. <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.2903\/j.efsa.2016.4426\/full\">More information<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Time to watch!
