Following the publication of Regulation (EU) No 2017\/1495 amending Regulation (EU) 2073\/2005, a limit has been set for Campylobacter spp<\/em> on broiler chicken carcases.<\/p>\n

According to the EFSA opinion published in 2010 on the risk of human campylobacteriosis linked to broiler chicken meat, handling, preparation and consumption of broiler chicken meat is likely to be responsible for 20 to 30% of human campylobacteriosis cases, while 50 to 80% of cases can be attributed to the chicken reservoir as a whole.<\/p>\n

The sampling plan for the Campylobacter criterion should follow the same test method as that adopted for the process hygiene criterion set for Salmonella on poultry carcases.
\nThe regulation recommends following the international standard EN ISO 10272-2, which defines the horizontal method for the enumeration of Campylobacter in food and animal feed, as the reference method for official laboratories to verify compliance with the Campylobacter criterion on poultry carcases.
\nThe limit has been set at 1,000 CFU\/g.
\nThis regulation applies from 1 January 2018.
