{"id":545115,"date":"2026-08-27T04:39:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T02:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/uncategorized\/publication-of-the-rasff-2016-annual-report\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T04:39:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T02:39:24","slug":"publication-of-the-rasff-2016-annual-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/news\/publication-of-the-rasff-2016-annual-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Publication of the RASFF 2016 annual report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>The 2016 annual report of the RASFF for food and feed products has just been published.<\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, 2,993 notifications were submitted via the RASFF portal, including 28% (n = 847) alert notifications, 13% (n = 378) information for follow-up, 20% (n = 598) information notifications and 39% (n = 1,170) border rejection notifications.<br\/>Compared to 2015, the number of alert notifications involving a serious health risk increased by 9%.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Salmonella:<\/b> Salmonella is the most frequently reported pathogen. The most affected product is meat, but notifications have also been made for egg products, in particular containing Salmonella Enteritidis.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Listeria monocytogenes:<\/b> Notifications for Listeria monocytogenes mainly concern fish, primarily smoked salmon. Notifications for raw milk cheeses were also recorded.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Escherichia coli:<\/b> Notifications issued for Escherichia coli are linked to the food safety criterion for live bivalve molluscs of 230 MPN\/100g set out in Regulation (EU) 2073\/2005 and its amendments.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Norovirus:<\/b> 14 notifications concerning norovirus, including 11 in live oysters from France.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Campylobacter:<\/b> reported 9 times, mainly in fresh chicken and once in rocket from Italy.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Allergens:<\/b> the subject of 107 notifications. Milk, soy, nuts and gluten are the most frequently reported allergens. Cereals and bakery products are the most commonly reported.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Heavy metals:<\/b> the subject of 88 notifications, mostly for the detection of mercury in fish. In addition to mercury, lead and cadmium are also harmful heavy metals, with maximum limits set in EU legislation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mycotoxins: Aflatoxins were mainly reported in nuts. These are generally nut-based products imported from outside the EU and then processed within the EU. Ochratoxin A was mainly reported in dried fruit such as raisins or dried figs and in cereal-based products. Regarding notifications for fumonisins, five out of six notifications concerned maize-based products.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Pesticide residues:<\/b> 222 notifications were issued, the majority for fruit and vegetables. All notifications in the \u201ccocoa and cocoa preparations, coffee and tea\u201d category concern tea, mainly from China and India. 143 of the 222 notifications are border rejections.
