The Order of 8 April 2020 suspending the introduction, importation and placing on the market in France of fresh cherries intended for consumption produced in a country authorising the treatment of cherry trees with plant protection products containing the active substance dimethoate was published on 25 April 2020.<\/p>\n\n

The text concerns those introducing, importing and first placing on the national market fresh cherries intended for food consumption.<\/p>\n\n

On 31 March 2020, France asked the European Commission to take emergency measures to suspend the import of fresh cherries from cherry trees treated with dimethoate, which are likely to pose a serious, including acute, risk to human health. As no measures were taken by the European Commission, France is reiterating the ban established last year in the Order of 15 April 2019.<\/p>\n\n

Thus, according to Article 1 of the Order of 8 April 2020: “The introduction, importation and placing on the market in France of fresh cherries intended for consumption produced in a country authorising plant protection products containing the active substance dimethoate for the treatment of cherry trees are suspended for a period of one year from the entry into force of this order.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n

This is the fourth consecutive year that France has implemented these restrictions.<\/p>\n\n
