PPAM are used in the food, cosmetics and food supplement sectors, among others. <br\/> These are extremely complex matrices to analyse due to their very high concentration, which creates far more interference than standard matrices. Only a few expert laboratories are capable of carrying out this type of service. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A World Health Organization survey indicated that around 70 to 80% of the world&#8217;s population relies on non-conventional, mainly plant-based medicine for their primary healthcare. In recent years, we have seen growing popularity of over-the-counter (non-prescription) health foods, nutraceuticals and medicines derived from plants or other natural sources in developed countries.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>However, these over-the-counter products can be contaminated by excessive amounts of authorised or banned pesticides, microbial contaminants, heavy metals, chemical toxins, and adulterated with conventional medicines.<br\/> These excessive or banned pesticides and heavy metals can be linked to the source of these plant materials, if they are grown in a contaminated environment or during the collection of these plant materials. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Presentation programme &#8211;
