{"id":544742,"date":"2026-08-27T02:47:57","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T00:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/uncategorized\/ban-on-imidacloprid-in-the-eu\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T02:47:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T00:47:58","slug":"ban-on-imidacloprid-in-the-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/ban-on-imidacloprid-in-the-eu\/","title":{"rendered":"Ban on imidacloprid in the EU"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Imidacloprid, a neonicotinoid substance, has just been banned in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/FR\/TXT\/PDF\/?uri=CELEX:32020R1643&amp;qid=1606922773332&amp;from=FR\">Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020\/1643<\/a><\/strong> has changed the expiry date of this substance to 1 December 2020.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regulation 2017\/195 had extended the approval period for imidacloprid until 31 July 2022 following a request for renewal of approval.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the applicant ultimately confirmed that it no longer supported this request, the extension until 31\/07\/22 was no longer justified, so the expiry date of the approval was set as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Article 46 of Regulation (EC) No. 1107\/2009 states that in this case, the grace period for plant protection products containing imidacloprid is limited to:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6 months for sale and distribution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an additional 12 months for the disposal, storage<br\/>and use of existing stocks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is up to each EU Member State to decide on the length of the national grace period (this period cannot exceed 18 months). MRLs will be lowered accordingly at the end of the maximum grace period.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a reminder, imidacloprid has already been banned in France since 1 September 2018. A draft decree amending Decree No. 2019-1519 is underway to amend the list of neonicotinoid substances banned in France. This list will contain 3 molecules (acetamiprid, flupyradifurone and sulfoxaflor), the other neonicotinoid substances now being banned in the EU (imidacloprid, clothianidin, thiamethoxam and thiacloprid).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phytocontrol supports you in the analysis of neonicotinoid substances in various matrices under COFRAC accreditation.
