Any contamination of water can therefore have harmful effects in the short or medium term.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Microtox test, <em>Vibrio fischeri<\/em>, bioluminescence: here&#8217;s how it works!<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Microtox test<\/strong> uses <em>Vibrio fischeri<\/em>, a non-pathogenic marine bacterium notable for producing <strong>natural bioluminescence<\/strong>. The test is based on the principle that certain bacterial strains emit light when healthy. When exposed to toxic substances, the amount of light emitted decreases.
