{"id":544630,"date":"2026-08-27T02:25:42","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T00:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/uncategorized\/analysis-of-ethylene-oxide-under-accreditation-by-the-phytocontrol-laboratory\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T02:25:42","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T00:25:42","slug":"analysis-of-ethylene-oxide-under-accreditation-by-the-phytocontrol-laboratory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/news\/analysis-of-ethylene-oxide-under-accreditation-by-the-phytocontrol-laboratory\/","title":{"rendered":"Analysis of ethylene oxide under accreditation by the Phytocontrol laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>The Phytocontrol laboratory achieves a new success in the research and development of its analytical methods under COFRAC accreditation for ethylene oxide and its metabolite, 2-chloroethanol, in foodstuffs.<\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">COFRAC has thus granted us its trust for the accredited analysis of ethylene oxide, according to the residue definition required by the regulation, for the following products: aromatic and medicinal plants, oilseeds and oleaginous fruits, oils, dried fruit and vegetables, cereals and derived products, and spices.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In France, the DGCCRF has carried out numerous recalls of batches containing contaminated products such as sesame seeds, crispbread, ready meals, flours and cooking aids, etc. The list of recalled products is available on the DGCCRF website.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is ethylene oxide?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ethylene oxide is a small molecule with fungicidal and biocidal properties. It is a plant protection product classified as a genotoxic carcinogen and used by many countries, including India, to prevent bacterial, yeast and mould proliferation during the transport of foodstuffs.<br\/> In early September 2020, several European Union member states found ethylene oxide concentrations 100 times higher than the Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) in sesame seeds. These consumer products were immediately withdrawn from sale (multigrain bread, flour, seed mixes, etc.).<br\/><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Phytocontrol solution<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We offer an accredited analysis method for ethylene oxide and its metabolite by GC-MS\/MS.<br\/><br\/> Through this accreditation, we aim to provide you with assurance of reliable, high-quality analysis results.<br\/><br\/> Our limits of quantification comply with the regulatory limits in force for each matrix.<br\/><br\/><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ethylene oxide regulations explained:<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The compliance of a sample is based on compliance with the MRL set out in EC Regulation No. 396\/2005 and its amendments.
