Regulation 2024\/2895<\/strong><\/a> has just been published. It amends Regulation 2073\/2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs, in particular ready-to-eat food.<\/p>\n\n

Ready-to-eat food is defined in the regulation as food intended by the producer or manufacturer for direct human consumption, without the need for cooking or other processing effective to eliminate or reduce hazardous microorganisms to an acceptable level.<\/p>\n\n

Regulation (EC) No 2073\/2005 sets out criteria regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes<\/em> in ready-to-eat food able to support the growth of Listeria monocytogenes<\/em>, other than food intended for infants or for special medical purposes.<\/p>\n\n

However, this regulation does not provide for a criterion applicable to such food once it has left the immediate control of the food business operator that produced it, even though it is still not possible to guarantee that the limit of 100 CFU\/g will not be exceeded throughout the shelf life.<\/p>\n\n

That is why the stage of application of the \u201cNot detected\/25g\u201d criterion has been amended by Regulation 2024\/2895. The stage of application of the \u201cNot detected\/25g\u201d criterion now extends to all products placed on the market throughout their shelf life.<\/p>\n\n

The note on the interpretation of test results has also been amended.<\/p>\n\n

The regulation will apply from 01\/07\/2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
