<\/p>\n\n

France has just renewed the suspension of the introduction, import and placing on the market of fresh fruit and vegetables<\/strong> from countries outside the EU containing thiacloprid<\/strong>, via the order of 24 February 2025<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Thiacloprid<\/strong> has been banned in the EU since 03\/02\/2020. Grace periods for storage and use of stocks were set at 03\/02\/2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

This neonicotinoid has been banned for use in France since 2018, along with four other molecules of the same family.<\/p>\n\n

EFSA has raised concerns regarding groundwater contamination by potentially carcinogenic metabolites of thiacloprid and its classification as a reproductive toxicant category 1B. It also noted that thiacloprid is considered an endocrine disruptor.<\/p>\n\n

EU regulation 2024\/2711<\/strong><\/a> lowered the MRLs for thiacloprid; these MRLs will only apply from 12 May 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

The French order therefore renews the ban on the presence of thiacloprid in fruit and vegetables until 12\/02\/2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Article 2 of this order invites food business operators to gather information on the origin of fruit and vegetables, to assess and manage the risk that the matrices have been treated, and to carry out analyses demonstrating the absence of quantifiable thiacloprid residue.<\/p>\n\n
