{"id":544088,"date":"2026-08-26T23:52:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T21:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/uncategorized\/efsa-technical-report-on-organic-food\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T23:52:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T21:52:34","slug":"efsa-technical-report-on-organic-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/efsa-technical-report-on-organic-food\/","title":{"rendered":"EFSA: Technical report on organic food"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Commission asked EFSA to prepare a <a href=\"https:\/\/efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/epdf\/10.2903\/sp.efsa.2025.EN-9524\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">technical report<\/a> on 21 unauthorised active substances frequently detected in organic food and feed products between 2021 and 2022.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 21 active substances concerned are as follows: fosetyl-Al, glyphosate, cypermethrin, imidacloprid, boscalid, tebuconazole, folpet, pirimiphos-methyl, azoxystrobin, fluopyram, lambda-cyhalothrin, acetamiprid, chlormequat, pendimethalin, spirotetramat, cyprodinil, chloridazon, pyriproxyfen, fludioxonil, difenoconazole and deltamethrin.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report examined the detection of these molecules in food and feed of plant origin and organic apicultural products.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the 21 active substances examined, residue quantification rates ranged from 0.04 to 3.95% in products labelled as organic (175,809 analytical results).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report concludes that none of the 21 active substances occurs naturally in the products. For each substance, several possible sources of contamination were identified. Where residues are quantified in organic products, an investigation to confirm\/exclude unauthorised use of the substance is recommended.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EFSA recommends:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Where phosphonic acid (a metabolite of fosetyl and phosphonates), boscalid, fluopyram and difenoconazole are quantified in organic products, analysing the soil in which the plants were grown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Where glyphosate, boscalid, azoxystrobin, fluopyram and spirotetramat are quantified in organic products, analysing the irrigation water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To confirm\/exclude possible drift from conventional crops near organic crops, examining pesticide use around the organic production site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long\/medium-distance airborne transport of residues, transfer via water or cross-contamination are other potential sources of residues in plants.
