The order of 3 September 2025 relating to the analysis of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances<\/a> in water at the inlet and outlet of urban wastewater treatment plants has just been published.<\/p>\n\n

This text establishes a national monitoring campaign for PFAS in urban wastewater treatment plants with a nominal capacity equal to or greater than 10,000 population equivalent.<\/p>\n\n

The campaign consists of carrying out three measurements (sampling and analysis) at the inlet and three measurements at the outlet of the water treatment line. Sampling of inlet water and outlet water is carried out on the same day. These measurements are spaced at least one month apart. Each analysis quantifies the average 24-hour concentrations of PFAS in the raw water entering the plant and in the discharged water. The campaign ends by 31 December 2026 at the latest.<\/p>\n\n

The analyses will target 22 PFAS, 20 of which are already listed by the European directive on the quality of water intended for human consumption, and two originating from firefighting foams. At the plant outlet, a global analysis using the AOF (Adsorbable Organic Fluorine) method will also be mandatory to estimate the total PFAS load. The limits of quantification are set at 50 ng\/L at the inlet, 20 ng\/L at the outlet, and 2 \u00b5g\/L for the AOF analysis.<\/p>\n\n

The usual monitoring parameters of the urban wastewater treatment plant (inlet and outlet) are also systematically analysed on the same day (without separation of dissolved and particulate fractions).<\/p>\n\n

Phytocontrol holds the national approval from the Ministry of Health and the Environment for sampling and analysis for water sanitary control.<\/p>\n\n
