Human activity has contributed to increasing arsenic levels in the environment due to industrial emissions (mining, non-ferrous metal smelting and fossil fuel combustion) and the use of arsenic as an ingredient in fertilisers, wood preservatives, insecticides or herbicides. Although exposure via skin contact and inhalation is possible, food and drinking water are the main routes of exposure to arsenic.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maximum levels for inorganic arsenic are already set for rice and rice-based products, fruit juices and infant food. A maximum level for total arsenic is set for salt.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Regulation 2025\/1891<\/strong> introduces maximum levels for <strong>inorganic arsenic<\/strong> in <strong>fish and other seafood products.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The maximum levels to be respected are as follows:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monkfish, flatfish, haddock, herring, ray and dogfish: 0.50 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Other species: 0.10 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crabs and shrimps: 0.10 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Norway lobster: 1.5 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Other crustaceans: 0.20 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scallops: 0.10 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Other bivalve molluscs: 0.50 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cephalopods: 0.050 mg\/kg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Foodstuffs lawfully placed on the market before 08\/10\/25 may remain on the market until their minimum durability date or use-by date.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regulation will apply from <strong>08\/10\/2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Phytocontrol laboratory offers inorganic arsenic analysis in fish and other fishery products, under COFRAC accreditation.
