{"id":544062,"date":"2026-08-26T23:51:29","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T21:51:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/uncategorized\/guideline-values-established-for-3-pfas-in-drinking-water\/"},"modified":"2026-09-20T11:48:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T09:48:36","slug":"guideline-values-established-for-3-pfas-in-drinking-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/guideline-values-established-for-3-pfas-in-drinking-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Guideline values established for 3 PFAS in drinking water"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 14 October 2025, ANSES published a report on PFAS in various compartments: an overview of contamination and categorisation for monitoring purposes.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the objectives of the referral was to update the health risk assessment linked to the presence of PFAS in drinking water, as well as to determine one or more guideline values based on the 20 PFAS listed in Directive 2020\/2184, plus 6:2 FTSA fluorotelomer.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Health guideline values for drinking water correspond to the concentration of a chemical agent that is recommended not to be exceeded in drinking water to protect the health of the entire population. Guideline values are established assuming the population consumes this water throughout their entire life; they are values set for long-term exposure.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among these 21 PFAS, 10 PFAS could be assessed. A toxicity reference value (TRV) was established and validated for PFBA, 6:2 FTSA and PFHxA. The other PFAS were studied without the possibility of establishing a TRV.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, health guideline values have been set for PFBA, 6:2 FTSA and PFHxA:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PFBA: 114 \u00b5g\/L<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PFHxA: 114 \u00b5g\/L<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6:2 FTSA: 1.7 \u00b5g\/L<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The working group has made recommendations regarding water treatment for drinking purposes.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The current state of knowledge does not allow us to determine whether PFAS can be formed from precursors through biodegradation reactions within granular activated carbon filters and chemical oxidation (ozonation) under the conditions found in drinking water production plants, as well as by free chlorine in storage tanks and the distribution network. The working group therefore recommends that studies be carried out to better document the possibilities of transformation of certain PFAS under the real conditions found in drinking water production plants and\/or in storage tanks and distribution networks.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that Phytocontrol holds the national approval from the Ministry of Health and Environment for carrying out sampling and analyses for the sanitary control of water.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will find the details of our accreditations in our COFRAC technical annex No. 1-6066. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Need technical, regulatory or pricing information?
