(2018).<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A major sanitary challenge for the sector<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To date, there is no reliable management tool to distinguish infectious norovirus from non-infectious norovirus in oysters, as analyses rely solely on detection of the viral genome. For nearly 10 years, Actalia (Agri-Food Technical Institute) and LCPME (a joint research unit between the University of Lorraine and CNRS), partners in the <b>UMT Actia VIROcontrol<\/b> approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, have developed a scientific approach to demonstrate the value of using a viral indicator to estimate the presence of infectious norovirus in oysters. This viral indicator corresponds to <b>infectious F-specific RNA bacteriophages<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since winter 2024-2025 and now for winter 2025-2026, the <b>OXYVIR observatory<\/b> has been deployed across more than 70 French shellfish farming areas. Led by the <b>Comit\u00e9 National de la Conchyliculture (CNC)<\/b> and the <b>7 Comit\u00e9s R\u00e9gionaux de la Conchyliculture<\/b>, and scientifically coordinated by the UMT VIROcontrol partners (<b>ACTALIA and LCPME<\/b>), it enables the implementation of appropriate control measures to guarantee the sanitary quality of oysters and work towards the goal of &#8220;zero illness&#8221;. The scale of the programme mobilises several laboratories between November and April to ensure responsive and reliable weekly monitoring.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A win-win partnership for the sector<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this context, Phytocontrol has been officially referenced to carry out oyster analyses in the shellfish farming areas monitored by the Comit\u00e9 R\u00e9gional de la Conchyliculture (CRC) de M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. Between November 2025 and March 2026, our laboratory receives oysters from several points in the monitoring network and carries out the following analyses:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Norovirus GI and GII genomes:<\/b> detection and quantification of viral genomes according to ISO 15216-1 (2017).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b><em>E. coli<\/em><\/b>: enumeration of bacteria in live shellfish according to ISO 7251 (2023).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Infectious F-specific RNA bacteriophages<\/b>: enumeration of phages according to Hartard et al.
