{"id":520356,"date":"2025-04-29T15:42:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T13:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=520356"},"modified":"2026-08-27T23:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T21:56:13","slug":"anses-publication-of-the-methodology-report-for-the-third-french-total-diet-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/anses-publication-of-the-methodology-report-for-the-third-french-total-diet-study\/","title":{"rendered":"ANSES: publication of the method report for the 3rd French Total Diet Study"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ANSES has just published its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anses.fr\/sites\/default\/files\/ERCA2019-SA-0010-RA.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>method report for the 3<\/strong><strong><sup>rd<\/sup><\/strong><strong> French Total Diet Study (EAT3)<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three TDS studies have already been conducted in France: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A first TDS (EAT1), conducted between 2001 and 2005, targeted the general population aged 3 and over and covered the analysis of 39 chemical substances.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A second TDS (EAT2), conducted between 2006 and 2011, again targeted the general population aged 3 and over, but this time covered the analysis of 445 substances. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A TDS specific to children under 3 years old (infant TDS) was conducted between 2010 and 2016, screening for 670 substances.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ANSES undertook, on its own initiative, to conduct a third TDS on the general population.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This third TDS (EAT3) targets more than 250 substances and is based on data from the latest Individual and National Study on Food Consumption (INCA3), conducted in 2014-2015, covering the general population in mainland France aged 0 to 79.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children under 3 years old, who were the subject of a specific TDS (infant TDS) published in 2016, are not included in the EAT3 study population.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this new study, consumption of foods from organic farming was taken into account in the food sampling. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of this self-initiated study is to:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Update concentration data on certain chemical substances in food already analysed in previous TDS studies, and acquire data on new substances and on contamination levels of foods from organic farming;  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Estimate the chronic dietary exposure of the population in mainland France to a large number of substances, by combining this with food consumption data from the INCA3 study;  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Carry out the associated health risk assessments by comparing these exposures with reference health values;  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Issue recommendations for public authorities, industry sectors or consumers aimed at reducing contamination and\/or exposure to substances potentially associated with a health risk, and\/or research recommendations (toxicological, analytical, etc.). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The substance families selected are as follows (provisional list presented in Annexe I):  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heavy metals,  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Persistent organic pollutants (PCDD and PCDF, PCB), <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PFAS, <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Polybrominated compounds (PBDE and HBCDD),  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mycotoxins,  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Phytoestrogens (isoflavones),  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plant protection product and biocide residues,  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neoformed substances (acrylamide, PAH) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Other contaminants (chlorate and perchlorate ions, bisphenols, phthalates, etc.).  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other substances, not included in this study, may also be analysed later, depending on the needs of the health risk assessment. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">276 foods were selected for sampling in EAT3 (list in Annexe 2). This selection covers more than 90% of consumption for most groups among adults and children. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This methodological report is a preamble to the first results of this 3rd Total Diet Study (EAT3) in France. The results will be presented in successive reports and opinions, published once the risk assessment is finalised. A final report and opinion will summarise all the results and provide an overall assessment of the population&#8217;s exposure to chemical hazards through their diet in France.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Phytocontrol laboratory offers analyses under COFRAC accreditation.
