{"id":520342,"date":"2025-04-16T15:28:22","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T13:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=520342"},"modified":"2026-08-27T23:56:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T21:56:23","slug":"food-physicochemistry-seven-new-afnor-standards-integrated-into-our-analysis-methods-520342","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/news\/food-physicochemistry-seven-new-afnor-standards-integrated-into-our-analysis-methods-520342\/","title":{"rendered":"Food physico-chemistry: 7 new AFNOR standards integrated into our analytical methods"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Since 2015, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/nos-analyses\/valeurs-nutritionnelles\/\">Phytocontrol&#8217;s Food Physico-chemistry department<\/a> has been fully committed to an ambitious project to standardise the analytical methods used for nutritional labelling of food products.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This long-term commitment has now resulted in <strong>the publication of 7 AFNOR standards<\/strong> now integrated into our analytical methods.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Standards published for better harmonisation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The standardisation process reached major milestones in 2024 and 2025 with the publication of two sets of fundamental standards:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Batch 1 \u2013 Published in May 2024:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NF V03-032<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Determination of nitrogen content using the Kjeldahl method \u2013 Calculation of protein content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NF V03-426<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Determination of fat content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NF V03-802<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Determination of ash content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Batch 2 \u2013 Published in March 2025:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NF V03-801<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Determination of mass loss on drying.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NF V03-033-1<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Determination of sugar content. Part 1: method by (high-pressure) liquid chromatography with refractometric detection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NF V03-033-2<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Determination of sugar content. Part 2: method by high-performance anion-exchange chromatography coupled with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NF V03-034<\/strong>: Food products \u2013 Qualitative extraction of fat for the determination of fatty acid composition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These standards define a <strong>common methodological framework<\/strong> enabling better comparability of results, strengthening the reliability of data provided to the food industry and consumers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Scientific recognition under way<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To showcase this collective effort, an <strong>international scientific publication<\/strong> is currently being drafted. Entitled: <em>&#8220;Nutritional labelling: a collaborative study to develop standardized methods for protein, fat, sugars, mass loss after drying and ashes in food&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This work aims to present the scientific and technical foundations of standardisation: protocols, collaborative trials, statistical processing by BIPEA, and the results obtained.
