{"id":31367,"date":"2024-04-02T10:36:55","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T08:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=31367"},"modified":"2026-08-27T23:57:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T21:57:28","slug":"new-recommendations-for-nickel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/new-recommendations-for-nickel\/","title":{"rendered":"New recommendations for nickel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Commission has published <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/FR\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32024H0907&amp;qid=1711637965283\">Recommendation 2024\/907<\/a> on the monitoring of nickel in foodstuffs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nickel is present in foodstuffs and may be of natural or anthropogenic origin. According to the EFSA scientific opinion of 2015, nickel can have both chronic effects (risk of miscarriage) and acute effects (eczematous rash).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Commission recommends monitoring the presence of nickel in the following foodstuffs:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>food supplements,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chocolate, chocolate spreads, nut-based spreads, cocoa beans,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cereal-based products (in particular breakfast cereals, cereal flakes and oat milling products),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ready-to-eat soups,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>coffee,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tea,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vegetables,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>seaweed,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>oilseeds,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>soy-based products (such as tofu and soy-based drinks), legumes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nuts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fish and other seafood products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sampling procedures and analyses must comply with the requirements set out in Regulation (EC) No 333\/2007.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data must be collected during 2025, 2026 and 2027.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A draft text setting maximum levels for nickel in certain foodstuffs is currently under approval at European level.
