{"id":30689,"date":"2023-12-15T11:11:58","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T10:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=30689"},"modified":"2026-08-27T23:57:40","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T21:57:40","slug":"rasff-2022-annual-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/rasff-2022-annual-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Annual RASFF review 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/food.ec.europa.eu\/system\/files\/2023-10\/acn_annual-report_2022.pdf\"><strong>2022 annual report<\/strong><\/a> of the <strong>Alert and Cooperation Network (ACN)<\/strong> has just been published.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022, <strong>4,361 notifications<\/strong> were submitted to the <strong>Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1,514 <strong>border rejection notifications<\/strong> (35%),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1,164 <strong>alert notifications<\/strong> (27%),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>999 <strong>information notifications<\/strong> (23%),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>667 <strong>information for follow-up notifications<\/strong> (15%),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>17 <strong>news notifications<\/strong> (1%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3,904 concerned food intended for human consumption, 234 concerned feed intended for animals, and 219 concerned materials in contact with food.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The countries with the most notifications are <strong>Germany<\/strong> (586), the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong> (559), <strong>Belgium<\/strong> (428) and <strong>Poland<\/strong> (320). The most notified third countries are <strong>Turkey<\/strong> (557) and <strong>India<\/strong> (299).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most recurrent notifications are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pesticides in fruit and vegetables originating from Turkey (299),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salmonella in poultry and poultry products originating from Poland (190),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials in contact with foodstuffs originating from China (76),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salmonella in nuts, their derived products and seeds originating from Nigeria (66),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aflatoxins in nuts, their derived products and seeds originating from the United States (53).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pesticides<\/strong> are the most notified hazard with 990 notifications. The most frequently found are <strong>chlorpyrifos<\/strong> (251), <strong>ethylene oxide and 2-chloroethanol<\/strong> (186), and <strong>chlorpyrifos-methyl<\/strong> (142). They are mainly found in <strong>fruit and vegetables<\/strong> (from Turkey) and <strong>herbs and spices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pathogenic microorganisms<\/strong> rank second with 857 notifications. The most frequently found are salmonella (603), <em>Listeria monocytogenes<\/em> (132) and <em>Escherichia coli<\/em> (41). They are mainly found in <strong>poultry and poultry products<\/strong> and <strong>nuts and their derived products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mycotoxins<\/strong> are the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> most notified hazard in 2022 with 485 notifications. The most frequent detection is that of aflatoxins in the category of nuts, nut-derived products and seeds from the United States.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next come <strong>allergens<\/strong> with 210 notifications, mainly in the cereals and bakery products category. <strong>Milk<\/strong> is the most notified allergen.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Composition<\/strong> issues were also reported (208) in dietary foods, food supplements, fortified foods, as well as the <strong>presence of unauthorised substances<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For <strong>animal feed<\/strong> (FEED), 234 notifications were reported to RASFF. The most common hazard was <strong>salmonella<\/strong> (105) as well as <strong>enterobacteria<\/strong> mainly detected in <strong>dog chew products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">219 notifications concerning <strong>materials in contact with foodstuffs<\/strong> were submitted in 2022. Most concerned <strong>primary aromatic amines<\/strong>, <strong>formaldehyde<\/strong> and <strong>lead<\/strong>. Most notifications concerned materials from <strong>China<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phytocontrol&#8217;s experts support you on these food fraud and food safety issues.
