These substances are derived mainly from crude oil, but also from coal, gas and biomass.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The presence of mineral oils in foodstuffs has several sources: environmental contamination, use of lubricants for machinery, release agents, processing aids, additives intended for human or animal food, and migration from materials in contact with food.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foodstuffs most exposed are vegetable oils, cereals and cereal-based products, infant foods, and chocolate and chocolate-based products. MOH are also found in dairy products, crisps, ready-to-eat meals\/salads, pulses, nuts, oilseeds, spices, and canned fish.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MOSH accumulate in the liver and lymphoid system but do not present a health risk at current levels of dietary exposure.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One type of MOAH is believed to be genotoxic and could cause cancer.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Commission is considering setting maximum levels of MOH in food products. Currently, EU Member States have agreed to withdraw and, if necessary, recall products from the market when the sum of MOAH concentrations in foodstuffs is equal to or above the following maximum limits of quantification:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>0.5 mg\/kg for dry foods (fat content \u22644%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 mg\/kg for foods with higher fat content (4%<fat content=\"\"><\/fat><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 mg\/kg for fats\/oils or foodstuffs with fat content &gt;50%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Phytocontrol laboratory offers MOSH\/MOAH analysis from C10 to C50 with limits of quantification from 0.2 mg\/kg to 1 mg\/kg depending on the matrix, under COFRAC accreditation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can view our COFRAC technical appendix No. 1-1904 available in your customer area or on the COFRAC website.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Need technical, regulatory or pricing information?
