It amends and adds maximum levels for <strong>inorganic and total arsenic<\/strong> in certain foodstuffs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arsenic is a ubiquitous metalloid found at low concentrations in rocks, soil and natural groundwater. Human activity has contributed to increasing arsenic levels in the environment due to industrial emissions (mining, non-ferrous metal smelting and fossil fuel combustion) and the use of arsenic in fertilisers, wood preservatives, insecticides or herbicides. Food and drinking water are the main routes of exposure to arsenic.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New maximum levels have been introduced for <strong>inorganic arsenic<\/strong> in:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rice flour: 0.25 mg\/kg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rice-based non-alcoholic beverages: 0.03 mg\/kg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infant formula, follow-on formula, food for special medical purposes intended for infants and young children, and young-child formula in powder form: 0.02 mg\/kg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infant formula, follow-on formula, food for special medical purposes intended for infants and young children, and young-child formula in liquid form: 0.01 mg\/kg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Baby food: 0.02 mg\/kg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit juices, reconstituted fruit juices and fruit nectars: 0.02 mg\/kg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The level set for <strong>milled non-parboiled rice (polished or white rice)<\/strong> has been lowered to <strong>0.15 mg\/kg<\/strong> instead of 0.20 mg\/kg.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A level of <strong>0.5 mg\/kg<\/strong> has also been added for <strong>salt<\/strong> for <strong>total arsenic<\/strong>. This is the maximum level set by the Codex Alimentarius.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Article 2 of this regulation specifies that foodstuffs legally placed on the market before 26\/03\/23 may remain on the market until their date of minimum durability or use-by date.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These maximum levels are applicable from <strong>26\/03\/2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Phytocontrol laboratory offers the analysis of inorganic arsenic and total arsenic under COFRAC accreditation.
