It concerns the <strong>refusal to authorise titanium dioxide (E 171)<\/strong> as an additive in feed for all animal species.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TiO2 was authorised without a time limit by Directive 70\/524\/EEC as a colourant in dog and cat food and in feed for all animal species under certain conditions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An application was submitted for the re-evaluation of this additive, in order to classify it in the category of &#8220;sensory additives&#8221; and in the functional group of &#8220;colourants: substances that add or restore colour to feedingstuffs&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/fr\/news\/titanium-dioxide-e171-no-longer-considered-safe-when-used-food-additive\">EFSA published an opinion<\/a> showing that it has not been established that titanium dioxide has no adverse effect on animal health, human health or the environment when used as a feed additive in the functional group of &#8220;colourants: substances that add or restore colour to feedingstuffs&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorisation of titanium dioxide (E 171) as an additive in animal feed in the category of &#8220;sensory additives&#8221; and the functional group of &#8220;colourants: substances that add or restore colour to feedingstuffs&#8221; has therefore been refused.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Existing stocks of TiO2 and premixes containing it must be withdrawn from the market by <strong>20 March 2022<\/strong> at the latest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Feed materials, as well as compound feed produced with this additive or premixes containing it before 20 March 2022, must be withdrawn from the market by <strong>20 June 2022<\/strong> at the latest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Phytocontrol laboratory is able to detect and characterise titanium dioxide nanoparticles using state-of-the-art technology.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Need technical, regulatory or pricing information?
